SOHOにあるオハイオシアターで来月、春樹さんの小説をベースにしたメルチメディアシアター作品の上映が決まったようです。年明けの12日にプレビューがあり、15日から30日まで上演されるとのこと。
春樹さんの作品、映画（『ノルウェイの森』）、音楽（『パン屋大襲撃』）、舞台と最近、いろいろなメディアに変換されてますね。

“The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle,” a new multimedia theater piece based on the novel by Haruki Murakami, is set for a run at the Ohio Theater in SoHo next month. Part of the Public Theater’s Under the Radar Festival, the show, conceived and directed by Stephen Earnhart, and written for the stage by Mr. Earnhart and Gregory Pierce, combines live music, puppetry and movement, with cinematic video and audio technology used to tell a story of the human quest to find intimate connections. Previews begin Jan. 12, with an opening on Jan. 15 and performances through Jan. 30

Japanese cult author Haruki Murakami has been awarded Spain's Order of Arts and Letters, the Spanish government announced Friday.

The award is "in recognition of the creative personality of a very original narrative voice, a creator of literary work who has become a leading reference for contemporary literature," the ministry of culture said.
"Since the publication in Spain of his novel 'A Wild Sheep Chase' he has enjoyed considerable success among the Spanish public," it said in a statement.
Murakami, 60, a former Tokyo jazz bar owner often mentioned as a Nobel literature prize contender, has struck a global chord with his sensitive tales of the absurdity and loneliness of modern life.
His novels, which have been translated into almost 40 languages, also include "Norwegian Wood," "Kafka on the Shore" and "The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle."
His latest work, "1Q84", became an instant bestseller when it was released in Japan in May.

見かけにだまされないように
書き出しの数行で文章がすんないり体にしみてくる。最近の『アフターダーク』(2004)にしても、『海辺のカフカ』(2002)にしても、ほんの少ししっくりこない感じだった。冒頭、タクシーの中でヤナートニクの”シンフォニエッタ”が流れるというのは、ドイツ行きの飛行機の中でビートルズが流れてきたり、スパゲティーを茹でながら泥棒かささぎが流れたりする、過去の私の好きな作品を彷彿とさせる。

目次がつくのも久々ではないでしょうか？
”青豆”、”天吾”。何のことかわからないが、章毎に交互になっている様子は『世界の終わりとハードボイルドワンダーランド』を彷彿とさせる。けれど、あの時は短い名詞が三つづつ並んでいた。今回は短い文章になっている。なので、どちらかといえば『ねじまき鳥クロニクル』のよう。そう、ねじまき・・はまさにその中間、長い名詞が２つ、もしくは３つ並んでいる。
第18章 もうビッグ･ブラザーの出てくる幕はない
本人もどこかのインタビューで触れていたと思うが、この作品のタイトルはジョージ･オーウェルの『1984』(1949）からとられている。その『1984』にでてくる”ビッグブラザーの名前がこんなに直接的にでてくるとは驚いた。
ちなみに『1984』、アマゾンで中古品が一時￥5,979-で出されていた。確かにこの本、貴重です。そうそうおっきな本屋に行ってもなかなか置いてません。

数行の日本語だけを読むと、なんだかいわくありげな世界の話のことかを思ったのですが、こんな軽快な音楽の一説だとわかって、少し安心しました。夢を信じなさいということでしょうか？
E.Y.Harburg & Harold Arlenは、オズの魔法使いのオーバー・ザ・レインボーの二人。
オズの魔法使いといえば、「オズの魔法使いに出てくる竜巻のような」（？）かなんかの表現がどこかに出てきた記憶があります。
村上作品にプロローグが付くのはさほど多くなく、『神の子どもたちはみな踊る』（ドフトエフスキー『悪霊』、ジャン＝リュック･ゴダール『気狂いピエロ』）と、『ノルウェイの森』の”多くの祭り（フェト）のために”という難解な一文くらいではないでしょうか。
すでにここでわくわくします。
